Breakthrough pain is a common problem in cancer patients, and is associated with significant morbidity in this group of patients. However, the condition is not well understood by many healthcare professionals, and, as a result, the condition is not well managed in many cancer patients. Breakthrough pain has gained greater prominence in the last few years, particularly as a result of the development of specific pharmacological interventions (for the management of breakthrough pain). |
