If you think you have breakthrough cancer pain then you need to arrange to see the doctor or nurse, who is dealing with your cancer pain (or dealing with your cancer); the doctor or nurse will make an assessment of your breakthrough pain, and will then choose the best treatment for your breakthrough pain.
It is particularly important to inform the doctor or nurse about the effectiveness of any treatment, and the side effects caused by the treatment. This information will help to decide whether the treatment needs to be adjusted, or whether you need a completely new treatment. |

It is very helpful to keep a record of your breakthrough pain.
